Odysseus left Ithaca to fulfill his promise to Menelaus, one of Helen of Troy’s suitors, to help in the Trojan War. He was a great asset to the Greek side, leading successful raids and creating the Trojan Horse. However, his actions did not go unnoticed, and the gods granted the wish of the boy’s grandmother, who had prayed for revenge after Odysseus killed her grandson. After the war, Odysseus was blown off course and spent 10 years trying to find his way home, which is documented in Homer’s “The Odyssey.”
