Who Killed Myrtle in The Great Gatsby?
Myrtle Wilson dies as a result of Daisy’s actions. This fact isn’t exposed, though. At this sad time, Daisy is behind the wheel of Gatsby’s vehicle. And he takes the blame on himself out of a desire to protect her.
Tragically, Myrtle is killed when Gatsby’s automobile strikes her. But, Daisy is the one driving as they travel to East Egg. She is permitted to do it in order to calm her worries. Myrtle sees Tom driving about the city in Gatsby’s automobile before the collision. She then notices it from the window again and assumes Tom is operating the vehicle. The foolish girl runs into the middle of the road in an attempt to get his attention. Such conduct seems too abrupt for Daisy. Because of this, she runs Myrtle over with the car, instantly killing the victim.
The killer’s identity remains a secret. Gatsby refuses to leave the area despite Nick’s recommendation to do so because he wants to protect Daisy. George Wilson, the respectable woman’s husband, is heartbroken by this terrible news. He is consumed by the desire for vengeance and is preoccupied with tracking down the perpetrator. George wants to kill the criminal. Later, Tom gives him false information regarding Gatsby’s involvement in the incident. He almost immediately finds the car’s owner thanks to it. In the end, Wilson shoots Gatsby and then hangs himself after believing that the car’s driver is also Myrtle’s lover.
