What Was Gatsbys Reaction To Daisys Child?

When Gatsby and Nick meet Daisy and Tom’s baby, Gatsby is taken aback, as if he had never truly believed in the child’s existence before. Daisy is possessive of her daughter, claiming that she looks like her and not her father. The baby is something that Daisy can call her own, since she has very little control over her life. Gatsby is uncomfortable with the baby, as she is a reminder of the married couple and an obstacle to his dream of a perfect relationship with Daisy. He has worked hard to earn wealth in order to win her hand, and the baby does not fit into his idea of their love.
